1. What details will Dating Online collect from me?
Dating Online is a service providing a fun and informal way of meeting people on the net. Our members create their own unique profiles and can browse through the profiles of others to find someone they are interested in. Our matching technology can assist members by performing the searches according to personal preferences. In order to provide the most efficient service possible to our members, we ask for personal details which we display on the site. Visitors to Dating Online are welcome to browse and view profiles without entering any personal information, but they cannot make contact with members.
Information collected by Dating Online
Dating Online collects information from its users both directly
and indirectly.
Information collected directly
Members
Dating Online collects both 'public' and 'private' information.
Public: We define public information as personal information provided for public display by the member. This can include (but is not limited to) gender, age, height, occupation, interests, religion, location and photograph. We do this solely for the purpose of bringing compatible people together.
Private: We define private information as any information about a member that is not displayed in their profile. This can include (but is not limited to) their email address, first and last name, password, mailing address and telephone number.
Dating Online only allows members to submit information for their own profiles. Members may not submit information on somebody else's behalf.
Surveys and competitions
Dating Online occasionally requests information from users
via surveys or competitions. Participation is voluntary, as is
the disclosure of any personal information.
Information collected indirectly
Dating Online collects information that is not personally identifiable,
such as what browser types are used to view the site.
2. What does Dating Online do with this information?
Information collected directly
Members
Public: Public information supplied by our members is intended for viewing by other members and visitors to the site, and is used for searching and matching purposes. Members cannot be specifically identified by their public information (except, of course, for their photograph, the posting of which is optional).
Private: Dating Online uses members' email addresses to verify memberships and to send messages on behalf of other members. Dating Online members cannot access other members' email addresses. Email addresses may also be used to communicate with members about customer service issues or to keep members informed of news about the site. Members may unsubscribe to this service at any time. All other private information that Dating Online collects is kept confidential and will only be disclosed if required by law.
Surveys and competitions
Information collected by surveys is used to monitor or improve the site according to member's preferences. Contact and other information collected by competitions is used solely for the purpose of awarding prizes and contacting winners.
Others
Dating Online members are invited to ask the advice of our relationships expert; we will not divulge any of your personal information. If your question is displayed on the site, you may use a pseudonym to avoid identification.
Dating Online allows members to communicate with each other via our messaging service. We do all that we can to prevent this site from being misused, but we strongly urge you not to give out personal information until you have established a level of trust with the other party.
Information collected indirectly
Dating Online uses information about your server, IP address and
browser to help us to run our site efficiently.
3. Does Dating Online share this information with anyone?
Dating Online does not share any of your personal information with anyone, with two exceptions: if you have given express permission for us to do so, or if we are required to do so by law.
4. What about my security on other sites linked to Dating Online?
Dating Online may contain links to sites that we think may be of interest to our members. Please note that Dating Online is not responsible for these sites in any way and our privacy policy does not relate to these sites. We encourage members to familiarise themselves with the privacy policies of other sites before divulging any personal information. Dating Online will never share any of your personal information with any of its linked sites.
5. What are cookies and do I need them?
A cookie is a small text file that can be entered into the memory of your web browser. This allows websites to retain information about you and the way you use the site, so that next time you visit, it may be quicker to upload and it may appear according to preferences you have expressed. This may also help you to avoid unnecessary repetition of data input each time you visit. Cookies are only used to access information sent to your computer from Dating Online. It is not possible for us to access any other information on your computer.
You are not obliged to use cookies; most browsers allow users to turn off this feature, and cookie files can also be deleted from your computer. Cookies are a necessary function of Dating Online, however, and access to the site and/or the many functions of the site may be disabled along with cookies.
Some of our business partners (for example, advertisers) may use cookies. Members should be aware of this if viewing material outside Dating Online. We have no access to, or control over, these cookies.
6. What happens when I update or remove information?
Dating Online allows members to update or remove any of their details. Old information is discarded immediately.
7. How will I know if Dating Online changes its privacy policy?
Any changes to Dating Online's privacy policy will be made publicly available via a prominently placed link on the homepage of the website. In the unlikely event that we wish to use your personal details in a manner materially different from that agreed upon at the time it was collected, we will notify you by email immediately. We will not go ahead with this without your express permission.
8. How secure is my personal information?
We understand that in matters of the heart, trust is paramount. Your privacy is important to us, so Dating Online takes every available precaution to protect you, both online and offline. Only employees who require access to your information to perform a specific task (for example, answer a customer service query) have access to personally identifiable information.
Do you have any questions or concerns about your security on our site? We are happy to answer any queries; please email us.
9. If I sign up to Dating Online, will I end up with a lot of unsolicited
emails?
Emailing is our primary method of contacting you, and emails from Dating Online will mostly be about member responses to your profile, partner matches we have made for you and newsletters letting you know what is happening on our site. We may also send the occasional announcement of a special event or offer that we want to share with you.
As a Dating Online member, you are automatically subscribed to each of the above. You may choose to unsubscribe from any of these services, and this can be done by following the link that is provided in all of our emails.
